RIP, Neil Hope. [16 Feb 2012|04:32pm]

kittyface WHAT. Degrassi star Neil Hope, who played 'Wheels,' reported dead, almost five years later.

alias_elaina OMG. FIVE YEARS? I feel as though I said more than a few disrespectful things about Wheels online during that time. This makes me sad.

[info]kittyface A Facebook page urging him to join had three members :/. They should have been us, at least.

[info]alias_elaina What I want to know is how you, an Australian, found out about this before me. I feel I've failed as a Canadian.

[info]kittyface Clearly I have my finger on the pulse of the zeitgeist of 1987 while you, simply, do not.

[info]kittyface  Alas poor Wheels, I knew him, Joey Jeremiah.

I was going to make some comment about how this is the first Degrassi death (that I'm aware of), WHO'S NEXT, and something about Whitney Houston, but nah. I don't understand how someone can die of "natural causes" at age 35. It's sad.

Wheels showing up on TNG to apologize to Lucy ten years after School's Out still stands as one of the best TV payoffs ever for me. I may have snarked on his character a lot, but I respected Hope for seeing that storyline through. RIP.

oh my God, I'm so glad I found this comm. my previous roams through the Degrassi crevices of the net showed a dark and upsetting world where people took this crazy ass bullshit seriously. I love this show, I can't stop watching it, but by no acceptable human standards of goodness can it be called a good show. I started my own sassy Degrassi blog, degrassic_park to fill the gap a bit

Also, does anyone know the contact information for the guy/girl who ran the official Degrassi Myspace before it was hacked? I meant to get in touch with him for my research earlier, but now I'm not sure how.

The return. [16 Dec 2006|12:14pm]

So what's the deal with TNG now? Do I have to spoiler-cut discussion even though The N is light-years ahead of us and Emma's probably already knocked up with Sean's baby, driving him to drop acid and jump off a bridge?

Okay.Collapse )

[15 Oct 2006|01:10am]

Can someone enlighten me as to why The N is already airing Season 6 of TNG for our American counterparts but we Canadians have not heard a peep about it? I do believe it is our inalienable right to see whatever regrettable hairstyles await.

As I said in regards to the release of School's Out in Australia (but not Canada), way to turn your back on the country who SPAWNED you. Somehow I bet Kevin Smith has something to do with this.

I just noticed that one of our members posted recently about School's Out being available on DVD. Does anyone know if this is just available in Australia so far, or if there are any plans to release it in North America? I did a quick Google search but didn't find any info.

I'm new to this community. My name is Erin, I'm 17 years old. I've pretty much grown up watching Degrassi.

There is actually a POINT to this post though.

I always find that, within Degrassi fans, people are either fans of the old show or fans of the new show. It's like I'm the only person who enjoys both shows EQUALLY. I consider myself a fan of the entire Degrassi franchise. To me, the only difference between TNG and the old Degrassi is the time period and the characters. It's still fundamentally the same show.

I was just wondering what everyone else's take is on this.

Hey...i joined a few days ago & haven't had a chance to post...eep.
I'm christa from melbourne, australia

Anyhoo, I've been a fan of Degrassi jnr. high/Degrassi high for ageeeesss. I first watched it when i was 10, then at 11 mum stopped me from watching it ;/ it wasn't until i was 13-14 when i became a big fan, i still remember we had a degrassi look alike contest/quiz in my first year at high school...i ALWAYS watched the reruns when they were on...
..and i still love it nowdays, i've been watching the dvds over and over again alot recently. Plus i got School's out last week. I'm not really big on TNG it's ok but i like DJH/DH more.
I liked Catlin & Joey, and Patrick..& i don't know why but i laugh my butt off when Joey and Dwayne used to pick on each other..Kathleen annoyed me as well...

Degrassi: The Musical! [23 Jun 2006|11:49pm]

kittyface says: you know what i think we need to champion?
kittyface says: degrassi: the musical.
kittyface says: like grease but with more sex and drugs and disease

alias_elaina says: i can already hear the ballad of wheels.

kittyface says: "my parents are dead/i live with my grandparents instead/i steal all their cash/to make my mullet so flash" etc etc

alias_elaina says: and stephanie kaye could do a rizzo-esque torch song
alias_elaina says: michelle and her dad could do a love duet
alias_elaina says: alexa and simon could do some greek dancing

kittyface says: we could have a song about periods, and waiting for them, like heather/erica
kittyface says: there are so many possibilities!

It devolved into a discussion of Greek mythology shortly thereafter, but I really think this is something we need to work on. The material just lends itself so readily, in the vein of Monica! The Musical and Silence! Silence of the Lambs: The Musical. Look for it coming to an auditorium near you.

Degrassi meets YouTube. [05 May 2006|08:26pm]

You guys. While on YouTube in search of those TNG webisodes I can never get to work on The N's site, I came across all these awesome Classic Degrassi music videos:

What the author calls "Jaitlin"--that is, Caitlin and Joey--set to the music of t.At.U (or however you spell it).

MORE Jaitlin, through the years, over a duet by Cher and Peter Cetera.

Enough with the Jaitlin already, BUT, this one has the distinction of featuring the "You were fucking Tessa Campinelli?" line.

Kathleen gets abused by Scuzzy Scott. (It's not really six minutes long; for some reason it repeats again without the song.)

Erica has an abortion, with No Doubt lending moral support.

Lucy leads a pretty charmed life--but the jarring final shot will remind you that no one is safe from Wheels.

Liz comes to terms with her traumatic past, which includes listening to Mariah Carey.

And the best: Claude is emo, as is New Found Glory.

(Or, if you prefer your Claude suicide more adult contemporary, watch it while listening to Kelly Clarkson. Special mention for inclusion of Soapbox Joanne.)

And not a music video, but it can't be seen enough: "You know Wheels, you're a good looking young man."

Please post if you find any others!

alias_elaina says: i think randomcyn is the first canadian i know who hates degrassi
randomcyn says: I don't hate degrassi, I hate YOU
alias_elaina says: that should be our new slogan!

kittyface says: i want it on a t-shirt
alias_elaina says: me too!
alias_elaina says: with caitlin's ANGRY face--her "you were fucking tessa campinelli?" face
kittyface says: no, with claude's body in the toilet stall
alias_elaina says: we can do a series
kittyface says: also shane's dumb jerk face

TNG sighting: "Selling Innocence" [14 Apr 2006|08:18pm]

I meant to post about this movie that came on CTV recently, Selling Innocence. Apparently they'd already shown it on Lifetime but in case you missed it, it's your garden variety "The Internet is bad, mmmkay?" morality play. It's really very poorly scripted and acted and unless you like your Internet porn chastely clothed, there is no reason to seek it out except for the fact that Mike Lobell, who plays Jay on TNG, is in it playing the supportive yet clueless boyfriend and sporting ridiculous dreads with like, CRIMPED sections. And so the Degrassi follicular curse continues:

I wish I could find a larger photo to illustrate the full Medusa-esque horror, but this is what you get.

Oh, and there's a scene where he totally manhandles the lead actress's bare breast in his car, à la Joey and Tessa in School's Out.

right decision [12 Apr 2006|12:34pm]

remember in season 3 when spinner writes shit about marco being gay on the wall of the bathroom?

when it aired in canada it said "marco is a fag".. but the corny ass US aired an alternate take that said "marco is gay".. which isn't even an insult.... but anyway

i'm glad that the US dvd release has the canadian cut and not the stupid Noggin/N censored version

TNG: S3 on DVD. [10 Apr 2006|12:58pm]

I've finished watching most of TNG: S3 and I have to recommend listening to the commentaries for "Pride" and "Accidents Will Happen." The writers mock this show worse than I do.

Commentary highlights:

-"the gayest scene ever to happen on Degrassi with the most thinly veiled reference to sex": Dylan teaching Marco how to spike a volleyball

-Marco wearing a necklace that a writer suggests he got from Jay in the ravine

-remarks on the fluffiness of Craig's hair and how awful it looks

-how annoyed Jake Epstein was with the writers for making him cheat on Ashley

-early hints of Snake/Hot Sauce

-"I had an environmental club in high school. So really, I am Emma...without the oral gonorrhea."

Also worth the cost of the DVDs alone: a deleted scene featuring Hatzilakos and Raditch totally making out in a car. The actress looks totally disgusted; it's awesome.
